This project, located in a Conservation Area in Hackney, involved the complete refurbishment of a period home alongside the addition of a carefully considered rear extension. The design respects the home’s historical character while introducing modern touches to enhance its functionality and connection to the outdoors.

The refurbishment focused on restoring the home’s original charm, using deep colours and natural materials to return it to its former glory. Original features such as mouldings and timber flooring were carefully restored, blending seamlessly with new design elements. The rear extension not only provides additional space but also creates a seamless link between the kitchen, dining area, and the elevated garden. Bespoke windows and rooflights were designed to frame views of the garden and sky, bringing in natural light and establishing a stronger connection to the outdoors.

• Maximised Natural Light: Large glazed openings and bespoke rooflights were carefully positioned to bring in abundant natural light and frame garden views.

• Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Connection: Tiered steps create a subtle transition from the interior to the elevated garden, enhancing the relationship between the home and its surroundings.

• Custom Details: Bespoke joinery and finishes integrate new elements harmoniously with the restored period features.

The garden design, led by the immensely talented Hannah Stanton, complements the architecture by creating a harmonious outdoor space. The project also features hand-painted tile artwork by Julia Moore, adding a personal and artistic touch to the interior. The construction was carried out to an impeccable standard by Orsman Construction, ensuring the highest quality of execution.
